BEST PRODUCTS FOR A FRESH AND DEWY WINTER FOUNDATION ROUTINE

I've been loving this winter makeup trend of moving away from the traditional matte skin, and embracing a more dewy and refreshing type of base makeup. This lightweight routine is perfect for the winter time, because who really wants to be wearing a lot of makeup when the weather is so dry? In addition to the products pictured, I always start my foundation routine with a super hydrating daily moisturizer to prep my skin for makeup. This is my current go-to look when it comes to a foundation routine for the winter time.

I always start my foundation routine with a face primer. In the winter time, my go-to primer is the Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer ($50) from Smashbox. It's a lightweight, watery formula that helps my foundation last all day while hydrating my skin and creating a barrier between my skin and makeup. The real star of the show is Dior's Glow Maximizer (which I've recently discovered has been discontinued, although Hourglass's Ambient Light Primers are a great dupe!) which is also a face primer, although I prefer to mix it in with my foundation for a glow-y and dewy finish. It's a pearly, skin toned type of formula that mixes in easily with all of the foundations I've tried it with. For foundation, I prefer a light coverage foundation like the Physicians Formula's #InstaReady Super BB Cream ($20) for a more natural look. So I will usually mix a pump of the Glow Maximizer with a small amount of the #Instaready on the back of my hand, dab it all over my face, and blend evenly with my fingers. Lastly, I skip highlighting with a concealer, and instead just use a heavy duty concealer like Vasanti's Wonders of the World Colour Correcting Concealer ($26) under my eyes and on any small blemishes.

Even though this is my fresh and dewy foundation routine, I still like to set my foundation and concealer so that it doesn't budge throughout the day. The Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Illuminating Powder ($58) is the perfect pressed powder to use for this look because it contains tiny specks of shimmer within the powder, but it also doesn't make my face look like a disco ball. It has the perfect amount of glow to add to my face overall while setting everything in place. I like to use the e.l.f. Complexion Brush ($4) to swirl into the powder and brush over my face.

Lastly, the contour and the definite must - highlight! Even though this is a glow-y look, I still like to contour slightly to give my face a little more definition. I have been loving Benefit's Hoola Matte Bronzer ($36) lately, and will just brush the Real Techniques Contour Brush ($18.00, set) into the bronzer and brush it in that "3" motion along my temples, hollows of my cheeks, and jawline. Because I still like to keep it natural, I don't want to go into the realm of strobing necessarily, so the Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo ($18) is perfect for adding a touch more glow and shimmer to the high points of my face such as my cheekbones, nose bridge, and cupid's bow. I like to use Luxie's 522 brush ($31) because it's super soft and will ensure a seamless highlight application.

And there you have it, my currently daily winter foundation routine for fresh and dewy skin. I've been loving all of these products lately and I think they all work together so well for a natural look. Let me know if you guys have tried any of these products out!

xoxo,
Nancy

  1. The Glow Maximizer is all kinds of YESSS!! I think it's being discontinued now which is a real shame!! I've heard everyone talking about Pixi lately so I need to get on board of that soon!
