I came across Fable Naturals a few months ago on Instagram and since then, it's been on my list of brands to try. Ever since I have made a more conscious effort to support Canadian Made and/or brands with an ethical mandate, I have found so many brands through Instagram and Etsy and it's something I am going to continue to do because there are just so many different Canadian and local brands that I have not gotten the chance to try out yet.

Fable Naturals is a Vancouver based company with a focus on using Fairtrade ingredients in their products. There are so many unnecessary fragrances and chemicals in the products we use every day, and so few healthy and Fairtrade ingredients that Fable Naturals knew they could do better when creating the company. Their philosophy is based around creating products that we can feel good about putting on our skin and learning the stories of the ingredients and producers behind them at the same time.

Lemon Coconut Lip Balm
All of the products I'm featuring in this blog post today contain ingredients sourced from Fairtrade producers. For example, the cocoa butter used by Fable Naturals is sourced from farmer cooperatives in the Dominican Republic. Quinoa is sourced from Bolivian cooperatives, and they use olive oil that is traded in compliance with Fairtrade standards from family farms in Palestine. What I love about Fable Naturals is how transparent they are in the sourcing of their ingredients. On their website, you can find a page dedicated to a listing of all of the ingredients used in their products, where they've come from, and what the benefits of each ingredient are for your skin.

This lip balm contains natural lemon essential oil for an invigorating scent while the Fairtrade cocoa butter and olive oil brings nourishment to my lips. Can we also talk about the packaging guys? I love how this lip balm is packaged in cardboard tubes that are made from 100% recycled paper. They're super easy to use, and the tubes are totally bio-gradable and compostable for when you are done with the product.

One of my secrets to soft skin is to exfoliate it. This scrub smells heavenly and definitely does its job in getting rid of the dead skin cells on my body thanks to the Fairtrade cane sugar that it is packed full of. To use this, I'll scoop a small amount out of the tub with my fingers and rub the product into my wet skin. What I love about this scrub is how my skin not only feels super smooth after using it, but it also feels soft and hydrated thanks to the cocoa butter, coconut oil, and sunflower oils that it is made with.

Something I found to be interesting about this balm is that it can actually be used as both a cleanser and a moisturiser. I've mostly been using it as a cleanser, although I can also see how it would be an effective moisturiser from its list of ingredients; it contains light oils of apricot and jojoba to protect and moisturise the skin. To use this, I've been rubbing a small amount of the balm on a damp face, and rinsing with warm water to emulsify the balm and wash it off. I love the invigorating scent it has, although I'm not too sure how effective it is as a makeup remover. I definitely like it as a face cleanser, although I think I prefer to use my regular oil-based makeup remover first.

There's something about bar soaps that just pulls me in - you could say I have a slight obsession with them. You can use them to wash your hands, face, and body so they are just great to have all around! When I use bar soaps though, I always try to use handmade and organic soaps, because the producers tend to focus more on the ingredients put into the soaps rather than all of the preservatives and chemicals that commercial soaps use. The creators of Fable Naturals created Cedar + Sage as a unisex scent that is reminiscent of their childhood days playing in the forests of Vancouver Island (how awesome is that?).
