NYX | STROBE OF GENIUS ILLUMINATING PALETTE | SWATCHES & REVIEW

There used to be the days when I loved a dewy face, then I went through my matte face phase, and slowly but surely, I've been opening up to trying out highlighters even more so now than ever. Enter the Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette from NYX Cosmetics. This palette retails for $27 CAD (2.4oz) and includes seven highlighting powders designed to work for every skintone and highlighting need.

Featuring velvety smooth shades that will enhance your face with serious levels of illumination, there are three larger shades (0.14oz) and four smaller highlights (0.07oz) that can be worn alone or mixed together for the ultimate customized highlight. The seven shades are housed in a simple, slim plastic palette with a transparent lid so you can see the product inside. It doesn't come with a mirror or brush but the palette feels sturdy and has great quality overall.

The Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette contains a coordinated collection of highlighters that will allow anyone to master the strobing trend that we've seen over the course of the recent months. Some of the shades offer a subtle glow while others are super intense, so you will be able to mix and match them to find out what works best for you.

In terms of quality, all of the shades are velvety smooth with an ultra creamy texture that glides easily onto the skin. They blend out seamlessly and never look heavy when more is applied. One thing I've noticed however, is that there is a lot of fallout once a brush is tapped onto the product. While it holds onto the brush very well, it often leaves loose powder on the actual palette.

All of the powders are highly pigmented, so it's incredibly easy to get a subtle glow in one quick swipe. If you're looking for more of an intense illumination, you can just layer the powder!

Each shade in the palette has a name and function. From right to left in the top row is Golden Pink with Shimmer, True Duochrome Lavender with Shimmer, Cool Toned Light Pink with Shimmer, and True Yellow Gold with Gold Pearl. In the bottom row from right to left is True Champagne with Shimmer, Bronze with Gold Pearl, and Light Gold with Peachy Undertones and Shimmer.

While all 7 shades are beautiful, my personal favourites are the Cool Toned Light Pink, True Champagne, and Light Gold with Peachy Undertones powders. They are all so gorgeous on the skin, richly pigmented, and blend so easily. I found that they also lasted the entire day for me. Ever since I've gotten my hands on this palette, I've been reaching for it again and again every morning when I do my makeup! At $27 CAD, it may seem expensive, but when you actually break it down, you are only paying about $4 for each shade. Additionally, you can also use each shade as eyeshadows or blushes so in some respects you definitely get more use out of it.

I highly recommend the NYX Cosmetics Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette for those who are looking to add a great strobing palette to their collection or for those venturing into the world of highlighting. Has anyone else tried this palette yet? What are your favourite shades to wear?

xoxo,
Nancy
